My professional Journey
My journey began in 2009 when I worked for the NHS as a Community Nursery Nurse for the Health Visitors. I worked with babies from new born up to the age of 5. I loved this role, supporting parents in many different ways and offering advice on many different topics. I weighed babies, plotting their weight on the chart and giving feeding advice. I carried out developmental reviews and ran many parenting groups including baby massage, weaning group, potty training, sleep group and breastfeeding support group.
In this role, I quickly recognized the significant challenges families faced around sleep. Over 50% of the support requested by parents was related to sleep issues, each presenting in unique and complex ways. This experience sparked a strong interest in the topic, leading me to enrol in a professional sleep workshop with Millpond Children’s Sleep Clinic. The training was both inspiring and informative, deepening my curiosity about the science of sleep and highlighting its critical role in child development and family wellbeing.
After 10 years with the NHS I decided to put my career on hold, I became a stay at home Mum to my 3 wonderful children. However, not being able to get sleep off my mind, I used this time to study a foundation degree in holistic sleep. I had in-depth training into the science of sleep and the practicality of implementing many types of strategies.
After 2 years out of work, having finished my foundation degree and with my youngest starting nursery, I decided to begin looking for a new job. Within weeks I found the perfect job working as a sleep advisor for an ADHD and Autism charity. With my own children having autism, this gave me the perfect opportunity to further my knowledge and understanding of ADHD and Autism. I was soon helping families that were in my shoes. It has been and continues to be such a fulfilling job role and I love every minute of it.
To keep up with my professional development, I topped up my knowledge by completing a course on sleep training with The Sleep Charity. Whilst working part time, I came to the decision that I wanted to help more families in need of support with their child’s sleep, I started off helping and supporting friends and family and soon by word of mouth I found more and more families asking for my support.
With the passion I have for sleep I would love to reach families far and wide that are in need of support, bringing balance back into their life. Being a Mum of 3, I understand the demands parenting brings to life and the impact that lack of sleep has on you. This is why I believe in working with you and your family and tailoring the support I give so that it’s the right support for you and your family.
